My name is Robin Righter. I am a Democratic candidate for West Virginia State Auditor. I am from Shinnston West Virginia, a small town about ten miles north of Clarksburg. This is my first political campaign. I am running for office because I want to be a part of moving West Virginia forward and in doing so be a part of solving whatever problems or issues that need to be addressed.
I am very well qualified to do the job of State Auditor. I have a B.S. in Accounting from Fairmont State College and earned the designation of Certified Treasury Professional from the Association for Financial Professionals. I began my professional career with the West Virginia State Auditor's Office as the Deputy Social Security Administrator and then became the Program Administrator for the Purchasing Card Program. As the purchasing card administrator, I assisted in the development of program policies and procedures as well as designed a post-audit process to be used to ensure payments were processed correctly. In doing so, I had contact with every agency in the State of West Virginia.
While at the State Auditor's office I gave presentations on the national level at the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers (NASACT) and the National Association of Purchasing Card Professionals (NAPCP).
After leaving the State Auditor's Office, I became the Chief Operations Officer for a Community Action Agency where I supervised approximately 150 employees. At this position, I gained a significant amount of knowledge on leadership, what the needs of the under-served population are, and many of the socio-economic issues affecting our communities..
In 2007, I decided I wanted to move home to Shinnston and became self-employed as an insurance agent. Today, I am still involved in the insurance business and I am a co-owner in two small businesses, a restaurant and an apparel printing business.
On a personal note, I am a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shinnston and the Shinnston Historical Association where I serve as treasurer for both organizations. I am also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter No. 11 and the West Virginia Citizen's Defense League.
I would very much appreciate your support in helping me become the West Virginia State Auditor.
